How to Spend a Weekend in Georgetown
Discover The Magic of The George Hotel
Tucked away along South Carolina’s Hammock Coast, sits Georgetown. This charming town offers a slower pace, picturesque streets, quaint boutiques and waterfront bliss. Whether you’re strolling along Front Street or sipping cocktails by the water, it’s the perfect destination for a weekend escape. My husband and I drove up on a Saturday afternoon, eager to explore its charming streets, with the promise of good food and stunning sunsets. Here's how we spent our weekend, staying at the charming George Hotel.
The George, Georgetown’s newest boutique hotel is nestled in the historic district. The design-forward hotel blends modern touches with Lowcountry charm, offering 56 artfully curated rooms. From the tranquil waterfront lawn to direct marina access, the hotel evokes an elegant coastal retreat. With its onsite restaurant, The Independent, and seamless hospitality, it became our home base for the weekend, effortlessly tying together Georgetown’s natural beauty with a touch of luxury.

Saturday Afternoon
Our weekend began with a leisurely walk along Front Street. Lined with local eateries and shops, it was the perfect place to stretch our legs and take in Georgetown’s charming downtown. My husband was particularly excited to spot a new fly-fishing shop, though its grand opening during next week’s Wooden Boat Show meant we’d just missed it. No matter—we continued to Wildflower & Whiskey, where the owner pointed us toward Between the Antlers for a sunset drink. This hidden gem, with its corrugated exterior, turned out to be a cozy spot for local brews and great conversation.

Saturday Evening
As the sun dipped, we headed back along the docks to The Independent for our 7:30 reservation. Nestled within The George, the restaurant, part of Indigo Road Hospitality Group, did not disappoint. From raw oysters to she-crab soup, the flavors were a beautiful introduction to the Lowcountry’s culinary heritage. My shrimp and grits were the highlight, though the key lime pie (with a perfectly torched meringue!) may have stolen the show.
Sunday Morning
After a restful night and some pour-over coffee in our room, we started the day at Between the Antlers again, this time for brunch. I opted for a bowl filled with scrambled eggs, grits, avocado, and collard greens, while my husband dove into their signature fried bologna egg sandwich—a southern take on a BLT, complete with Duke’s mayo.
Georgetown may be small, but its waterfront charm and uncrowded spaces provided the perfect blend of relaxation and adventure. And while Charleston remains a food lover's paradise, Georgetown’s hidden gems offer the perfect respite from the usual hustle and bustle.
